Maryland Medical Insurance
There is now a desperate need in the state of Maryland to provide health insurance to its large number of uninsured children. Unfortunately, Maine has 90,000 children who are eligible to receive health coverage, yet are not taking advantage of it. Maryland groups, such as the Maryland Women's Coalition for Health Care Reform, are pushing for legislation that will provide much-needed coverage to the state's uninsured children.
At the same time, Maryland is well situated for top-notch health quality. Some of the state's individual counties are instituting their own policies to provide adequate coverage for lower income residents. For example, Howard County pushed for their Healthy Howard Program, which helps meet the needs of 20,000 county residents. The program got off to a healthy start, with $2.8 million dollars in the first year.
Current Health Quality in Maryland
Maryland has their own office of health care quality, which manages Maryland's 8,000-plus health care facilities in the state to ensure the best possible care. The department manages long-term care facilities, assisted living facilities, hospitals, substance abuse facilities, laboratories, and more.
